Summer bless

Hi there!

It had been some time since my last post…I had been busy with my internship among other things but I missed sharing my thoughts and moments with you.

So today I decided to share some pictures from one of my summer weekends in Denmark.

It is very common in here for people to spend their summer time in a Summer House, or Kolonihave. My husband’s family  have summer houses both in Rørvig and in Hald, so it is predictable that sometimes we go there for some cosy relaxing get away.

Coming from an island, makes me feel obviously “home” to spend my summer days by the sea/beach, so whenever we get the chance we spend our weekends outside Copenhagen.

A month ago, on our way to the summer house in Rørvig, Kasper and I spend one night at Nykøbing in Sjælland. It was such a relaxing city with such a beautiful harbour. Basicly a “fish city” surrounded by water. You can get delicious fresh fish and sea food everyday and enjoy the amazing panorama. As I love fish, it was so nice for me to be able to buy it fresh, just 10 minutes after it had been caught from the ocean 🙂 .

The night view from the city was also so beautiful as it was possible to clearly see the star and shooting stars while at the same time being surrounded by water.

Here are some pictures from my amazing weekend in Sjælland.

Roskilde Festival 2014

Hello my great people!

I have been missing the blog like crazy, but as you know, lately I took some days off for myself in order to attend Roskilde Festival in Denmark and I gotta say: DAMN, IT WAS GREAT!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It is almost a tradition for some Danes to attend this amazing musical experience every year and I have been waiting for 7 years to finally do it, but it was totally worth it! Some of my favourite bands and artists were performing (Emicida -from Brazil-, Major Lazer, Drake..oh wait..) and I had the pleasure to go with my homies: Thomas, William, Aman, Moe and Caroline, who helped the camp experience to be amazing!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIMG_3250

The greatest thing about Roskilde are the details, the organisation and the mood. The many lounges and volunteers areas are great and very cozy when you need a rest.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It also makes a great experience to be aloud to wear whatever you want and in our album on Facebook you can see the most stylish people who have been there. Enjoy it and feel free to tag your friends and/or yourself 🙂

Love, Mari.

Dreaming of New York

Hey Folks! I am so excited about my internship in New York. I had never been in NY before, (only in my dreams like 100.000 times) but I just love the city! As Aman mentioned on her last post the city has an amazing energy flow where things are happening all the time, like if the city never sleeps.

As Alicia Keys said “I got a pocket full of dream Baby…” and for a dreamer like me, it feels right to say that New York is just the perfect place to be.

I know that there is a lot of talk about “living your dream “and that some people even think its nonsense. I of course believe in living my dreams! But when we think about “living our dreams”, we make the mistake of thinking that everything will be easy, or that there is no effort required in making your dreams come true. Well, that’s not always the case. I know for a fact that I will not be living the “Sex And The City” lifestyle for example… because of my low budget, but I will not let money discourage me because one of the most amazing things about life is that there are so many different ways of reaching your goal. As I mentioned on my last post, travelling can really open your eyes to many delightful things and it is somehow the only thing you can actually purchase that enriches you even more as you gain and cultivate knowledge from different cultures and from the world.

So let NY be an incentive for change! It will turn me upside down & shake all the change out of my pockets, both literally & symbolically but I will live it up to the last drop!

By now, I will leave you with some pictures from my outfit of the day inspired by NY urban lifestyle 😉

A trip down to San Francisco’s hills

After a long flight from Copenhagen (11 hours), we landed in the beautiful Bay Area with bright blue sky and sunny (not always like that). Hello San Francisco!

I stayed at the hotel Marriott Union Square at 480 Sutter Street which was 2 minutes walking to the city centre. I was living at the 21st floor so I had a nice view from my hotel room window.

I was there with Kasper but because he was there with work I had most of the daytime by myself. It was actually nice walking around enjoying the city.

IMG_6117

The best part about any trip is the time we get to explore the amazing areas of a city. There’s nothing that makes me feel more alive and excited than discovering something new, getting to know new people and a new culture better. For me that is what travelling is about. It is somehow the only thing you can actually  purchase that enriches you even more as you gain and cultivate knowledge from different cultures and from the world. Somehow it really opens up your eyes for  many delightful things.

We spent 6 days out there and I got to see part of the city, shop and enjoy walking up and down the hills of San Francisco.

Some of my destinations were; walking through Chinatown, which it is the oldest and largest of its kind in North America; Took a ride on the city’s famous cable cars; visited the car cable museum; visited shopping malls and classic American shops like forever 21, Macy’s, DSW (the designer shoe land); tried amazing seafood and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge (the most iconic landmark in San Francisco).

Unfortunately the Museum of Modern Art is closed for improvement and reconstruction, so I was not able to see some of the local art pieces from this museum. I also did not had the chance to visit the Alcatraz prison as I had to buy the ticket days in advance (I went there and the next tickets available were for 26th June), so whenever you going to San Francisco and would like to visit the prison, I recommend that you book or buy tickets in advance. It is also possible, if you are really lucky, to purchase tickets very early morning like 7:30, from people that had cancelled but I would not relay on that because the tickets are limited.

Overall, I had such a great time out there and I would definitely like to go back there again. The city has its charm and magic somehow.

What about you, where is your next destination?

With love,

Noe

Tourist-ing around town

Hey guys!

It has been a while, hope you are enjoying the sun out there, well, I am 🙂

So my mother-in-law-to-be came all the way from Brazil to visit us. I guess she did not want to be around the World Cup Buzz, so Copenhagen must feel like a great place to escape! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It is quite a pleasure having family and friends visiting us, since we only go back home once a year and sometimes it almost feels like we´re too far away and distant, both physically and emotionally, from all the ones we love, so I am very excited to have her here and soon some of our argentinian and german friends as well!

This saturday we decided to take her for a little tour around town, yes, I know, very turistic, but we will get to the most secret spots later on. First things, first! This is the outfit I chose to go and it felt amazing being able to use a backless shirt, with the wind blowing my skirt and hair, I don´t want summer to ever end! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

How are you using your summertime?

Love, Mari.

Sit´n´Grilling in Vejby

Hey ya´ll!

I hope you are all enjoying the sun, at least I have been longing for it all year long, so all I think about right now is being out there as most as I can 🙂

So it is, me and Thomas have been yesterday to one of his friend´s place in the north of Denmark for a grilling session with the most amazing griller ever! It is called Sit´n´Grill and it is a table with a grilling center, where everyone can sit around and make their own meal, how amazing is that? I was quite surprised about how easy it was to set and use it, so I can definitely recommend it. Go to their website and check how cool they are! IMG_3143 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was a lot of fun, I met wonderful people, we played games, ate amazing fresh food and of course, drank a lot!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As the weather and the place were quite propitious, I decided to use an off-white summer dress with bordeaux sandals, hope you like it and let us know how you are enjoying your summer!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

12 point goes to…Austria!

Yesterday night was such an exciting evening at the B&W Hallerne where in front of thousands of people in the arena and millions of people on TV, Conchita Wurst “the bearded lady,” from Austria won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Rise Like A Phoenix!

I was watching it together with some of my good friends at home but it was still an exciting evening. I thought that most of the music this year was not so good but I definitely think that it was really well deserved.

Conchita+Wurst+Eurovision+Song+Contest+Rehearsals+pFsf3XAE7o4l

Conchita Wurst won with 290 points with the message of room for diversity while The Nederlands got the 2nd place with 238 votes, which was one of my favourites as well.

So, that means that next year the Eurovision will take place in Austria! Yeah!

Vienna is for sure one of my favourite cities in the world! It feels like going back to history and living in a dream city with so much cultural and artistic attractions. Back in 2012 I went to Vienna and had such an amazing trip, so this could be a great excuse for me to go back there.

I want to share some pictures and tips from my amazing trip with you.

If there is any single place on the globe that can be described as the historical centre of classical music, that place is Vienna. Most of the greatest and classic composers from all times like: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert comes from Vienna. Definitely a city of musicians!

me + mozard

When I was there I went to State Opera House and watch my first Opera ever. It was Tosca one of the best classic opera from all times from Puccini. I loved it! If you ever go to Austria you have to go to Opera. It is a must!

I off course had to try the most famous traditional Austrian dish called Wiener Schnitzel at Figlmueller restaurant. (The best restaurant in town!)http://www.figlmueller.at/en/about.html

There are so many attractions and places to see and to experience that it is almost impossible to state everything all in a single post but some of the places i had been which are worth to go are: Museums Quartier, Museum Albertina, Schonbrunn Zoo (the oldest zoo in the world- where you can see Pandas), Schonbrunn Pallace, Madame tussauds, flea markets, shopping street, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Orchestras among other amazing places..

Finally, no trip to Vienna is complete without a ride on the 19th-century Riesenrad or giant ferris wheel that features in ‘The Third Man’.

I Wish that one day you get the opportunity to visit Austria 😉 so maybe see you there in 2015 for the Eurovision?

Easter vacation getaway

Easter vacation is finally here! Are you looking for a weekend getaway? Sometimes a brief change of scenery is all it takes to revitalize the spirit and make the work-a-day world seem far away. Getaways can provide you with the sparkle that you need.

You don’t need to go very far to find the best weekend getaways for couples or family if you live in Copenhagen.

Three weeks ago, I took my husband to Malmö as a surprise birthday gift and it was wonderful!

me

me and kasper

Going to Malmö does not take more than 35 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station and the ticket only cost 85kr (170kr both ways).

Malmö is Sweden’s third largest city by population. Together with Copenhagen, it constitutes the transnational Øresund Region. The language is different, the houses are different, it smells new but I guarantee you that you will enjoy being abroad, while you feel completely at home.

During our visit, we stayed at Mayfair Hotel, which is a 100-year-old hotel with a great central location for travellers by train and bus. The hotel with its four stars has everything that you need to make your weekend magic so I definitely recommend it. Both the rooms and the food is super delicious. Had simply the most perfect weekend! Mayfair hotel is stunningly beautiful and marked by a lot of interesting history.

The city itself is versatile; you can find anything from clothing boutiques, outdoor restaurants, nightclubs, parks, beach, cafes, cosy bars, harbour, interesting architecture and museums.

Malmo is also the first city in Sweden, which was nominated and appointed to Fair-trade City, so in many stores you can find both organic and Fair Trade label clothing or locally produced organic food.

For lunch we headed to the Lilla Torg, which is a very cosy square with a lot of outdoors restaurants, cafes and bars. We ate at an Italian restaurant called Pronto, which had a delicious Carpaccio and risotto.

IMG_4308

As a dinner date, we went to restaurant called Bastard, which is described as modern European home cooking. I strongly recommend the restaurant and I definitely would go back there again. They were phenomenally creative yet homey, the food delicious with class and the service was excellent. http://www.bastardrestaurant.se/#start

bastard restaurant

And finally end up the night with some dance moves at the Etage nightclub. There was 3 different atmosphere, and rooms where we could choose from and a huge cosy outdoor for those of you who like tobacco. It was worth to try.

IMG_4346

If you are visiting Malmö for the first time you should try to see at least some of the most popular attractions:

It was my second time being in Malmö ( 1st time with Mariana and Aman)and I certainly enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. It is amazing how you can always find something new to see, to do or to try out there.

And remember that no matter where you are or go during your vacation make sure that you have a positive attitude, because that will truly make a huge impact on your experience. Enjoy your vacation and Happy Easter to all of you!

Summer Festivals

When in Denmark one CANNOT start creating expectations about summer, because rain will come and wash it all away…Oh, DK!

Well, despite the funny coming and going of my beloved sun, I am pretty much excited about this summer. First, because lately I had to stop and think about my weight, which has been increasing for the last few years (I guess being in a relationship DOES help you gaining weight!), then I decided on having a healthier lifestyle – don´t miss my next post! – so I am expecting to have, as Danes say, a “bikini ready” body until summer, but mostly keep on being healthy. IMG_2377Second, because so many festivals on the corner just makes you dream of fresh outfits and sitting on the grass with friends and a couple of drinks, so here is a list with 5 Scandinavian Festivals which you just cannot miss:

Distortion – June 4-8DistortionThis is a Street Music Festival that sort of opens the summer season in Copenhagen, so whenever the whole city is out for Distortion, you know it is time to put on some shorts! This year, it is going to happen from June 4th to 8th starting in Nørrebro and Vesterbro, then heading to the Harbour of Copenhagen and the Final Party. The best thing about this festival is that it is for free so everyone can join, but if you are not planning to attend it, watch out these streets, so you can chose other ways to go to your destination. It is almost impossible to bike, drive or even walk.

Secret Solstice – June 20-22Solstice Secret Solstice in Iceland has been gaining a lot of international and local recognition, maybe because of the exciting explanation behind it (it will happen during the 24-hour midnight sun during Summer Solstice and is based on the old Norse Mythology) or the even more exciting line up, which includes Massive Attack, Woodkid, Kerri Chandler and many more. If you ever wished to be in a place with endless sun, this is your destination!

Roskilde Festival – June 29-July 06RoskildeThe 43 year old pioneer – and one of the largest in Europe – festival that happens in the city of Roskilde, Denmark brings this year, among others, heavy names like The Rolling Stones, Drake, Stevie Wonder, Lykke Li and Manu Chao. It is a big event, so make sure to have a tent, plenty of food and beer. The good thing is that there is the possibility for students to volunteer for small jobs and get free tickets.

Stella Pollaris – early AugustStellaImagine yourself surrounded by nature, good music and company. The coolest locations are always held for this electronic music festival.. Be aware for whenever Stella Pollaris releases the dates for 2014, since this is a MUST GO festival if you live in Cph!

Strøm – August 11-17StrømIf you are into electronic music, this is the festival for you! With a range of Danish and International DJs and musicians, it is held late summer in different venues around the town of Copenhagen.

This year, I personally plan to attend Distortion, Stella Pollaris and go to Roskilde Festival as a volunteer, how about you, which summer festivals do you plan to go to?

Love, Mari

Easter in Copenhagen – what to do?

Thanks God It´s Saturday!

Weekend is here, there is a whole holiday week coming in and…what to do if you are on a short budget or not planning to travel out of Copenhagen? Well, so are we! Join us and let´s take a trip on some tips of what do.

If you, like us, are into some serious (and unexpensive) shopping, then you should for sure visit the CPH Fashion Outlet at Øksnehalen. It is going to happen today and tomorrow from 10-17 and there is free entrance! So hurry up and click on the picture in order to get your free pass-ticket.Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 11.09.37 AM

As a good Brazilian who appreciates all forms of art, I became extremely happy when I got to know that the Film Festival CPH PIX was having a whole week with new Brazilian movies. Personally, I want to watch “Praia do Futuro”, but all the other titles seem just as exciting, so if you tired of the Hollywood comedies and want to try something new, go for it.Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 11.26.51 AM

Just want to take a walk in the city and get a little lost? Well, then you should go to Jægersborggade. This might be one of the sweetest streets in Cph. Filled with all sorts of shops, from trendy cafes and restaurants to designed and handmade crafts, you will for sure find something to do in there. Just grabbing a cup of coffee and going to the cemetery/park by the side of it is one of the coziest things to do on lazy Sundays.jaegersborggade_ty_stangePicture from Visit Copenhagen

“Life is short, don´t be content with the ordinary, go extraordinary” So says the owners at 1105, one of the coolest cocktail bars we have been lately. Make sure you order a Cucumber Yum-yum with the DM-winner Hardeep Reehal and you will have your night´s highlight! Prices are a little over student-budgets, but totally worth it!4749403-llPicture from AOK

Let us know if have been to any of these places and what you thought of it or what your plans are for Easter Holidays!

Enjoy the weekend!

Mari
