I am extremely happy since I am learning a lot and being in contact with the sweetest people! Mark Kenly is one of the new Danish designers, he is extremely talented and can create magic with his hands. One of his secrets is the introduction of innovative and sustainable materials into his collections. The fabrics seen on his dresses and jackets are just candy for the eyes! Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2014

The past 3 days have been pretty intense for me! I have attended the Youth Fashion Summit, which has been one of the most amazing experiences during my studies. It made me reflect upon real facts and truth behind the fashion industry and as a conscious consumer, mother, citizen and future designer, it is my job to help create a more sustainable world for the future generation to come. If before I knew about sustainability, now I feel more than ready to take actions and make a difference. I learned a lot from more than 1,100 leading voices of the fashion industry including my fellow students; Knowledge that I will take with me forever and share with the world.

Reability groupAs the most polluting industry in the world, the fashion industry needs to change now! At the Youth Fashion Summit, we the next fashion generation, stated our voices and gave 7 demands to major fashion players, challenging them to act now and make a change.
I feel proud and excited to have had the chance and opportunity to be a part of Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2014, placed at Copenhagen Opera House. I feel happy to see that there are a lot of us who are willing to take the first steps toward a more sustainable world.

We are all aware that our human actions are affecting and impacting the world, socially and environmentally, but what are we actually doing about this? We need to stop over-consumption and slow down. I am looking forward to share with all of you the knowledge and information that I gained during the event in my further posts. By now I just want to share some pictures from the event, which was a great opportunity to network and meet inspiring people from all over the world.

dinner with 0 waste

As I wrote on my last post, I am currently participating at the Youth Fashion Summit 2014. It was a great starting day experience, and I was impressed how much could be done in only 1 day of work. Well, it is a long process, which I hope will help finding solutions  in order to create a better future for the new generations to come, addressed to the fashion industry.

IMG_5206

Anyway, after a long day of brainstorming, discussions, idea generation, workshops and amazing presentations, we went to have dinner at Rub & Stub. It is a cantina to combat food waste, and they focus on sustainability by having a nonprofit kitchen run by volunteers as part of the Association Retro.

The majority of the food from their menu are made from surplus goods from the food industry. It is a pretty new concept and space, with less than a year of existence.

IMG_5208

They are constantly working with multiple manufacturers and supermarkets that donate food when they hold surplus products. Therefore, the menu changes from day to day, so that they can best utilize the products that come through the door.

IMG_5219

They get the opportunity to put the industry’s surplus stocks to use for good restaurant experiences and ultimately to a very specific charity since that all the profits of the project is for the retros humanitarian development projects ( read more at http://www.foreningenretro.dk/ ).

It was a great experience for me to eat at Rub & Stub, so I wanted to share this amazing initiative with you. They serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

So whenever you have time and feel like trying out something new, you can always consider to go there. It is cosy, welcoming and the staff (volunteering workers) are friendly.

They are also constantly in need of new volunteers, so if you are interested, you should take a look at their web-page for more information :http://spisrubogstub.dk/

Make a difference, take actions 😉

H&M Conscious Collection

Hi there!

You have probably heard about H&M’s conscious collection. The collection is made by using sustainable materials, which is so great! And this proves yet again, that sustainable garments are not boring. 😉

I think this collection is so gorgeous, i get feeling of Baroque elements when i see the details like, embroidery, pleats, stones and big collars & sleeves. And I personally like baroque elements. I think I would wear some of the pieces with some more toned down pieces because I like a more minimal style, so I would just incorporate some of it in my outfits.

Which one is your favorite piece and how would you wear it?

H&M Conscious Collection is out today in selected stores and online 😉

Second-hand clothes and sustainability

Recycling and your favourite clothes are the most sustainable because a long life of each piece of clothing is the best way to a more environmentally friendly wardrobe.

I am working as a volunteer at a second hand charity store called LOOP. The shop is nonprofit and part of the Folkekirkens Nødhælp organization that helps poor people/kids in different countries around the world.

South Sudan Violence

The name LOOP comes from the recycle concept, where the intention is to get a second life and “another go” for the clothes available in the store.

The shop is for all of you who love recycling – and want to do it the ‘cool way’. At LOOP you can create your own unique look from the stores collection of specially selected, high-quality, designer – and always previously owned – clothes.

LOOP

All the pieces are donated, and the variety of the styles, sizes, and brands vary a lot and creates an eclectic universe. The interior design and visual merchandising of the shop are also different from the other stores from the same organization, to highlight that this store is special with its focus on selected pieces of clothes.

The picture above was taking during the process of opening the store.

We are always looking for volunteers who would like to work closely and actively with us. Right now we especially need creative people that wish to work on a up-cycling project, where we will re-design some of the donated pieces, which with a twist or modification can become even more cool, fun, or a completely new design. We believe that this project can be very interesting for those who are interested in purchasing a valuable piece with a lot of thoughts behind.

LOOP is located in the heart of Copenhagen, at Fiolstræde 28. Come by one day when you are in the neighbourhood – I am sure that you will find something and enjoy the atmosphere in the store!

Recently, the “Green Think Tank” Concito and a report on “Fashion Sustainability in 2013” from the accounting firm Deloitte has mentioned the Nordic record in clothing consumption.

Danes spend on average 35 percent more clothing than the world average, and we have the highest consumption within the Nordic countries. The consumption has also increased by 20 percent since 2000. Every Dane consumes on average 16 kg of clothes per year, corresponding to 16 pairs of trousers or 64 T-shirts. From an environmental perspective we have to consider that production of 16 pairs of pants requires 58,000 liters of water, equal to 1200 showers, and clothing consumption emits more greenhouse gases than our regular residential electricity consumption.

If you are into the recycling and want to take action to make a  change, here are other ways you can do it:

Dress swap -> Resecond in Nørrebro, where you can get a dress for a dress. Resecond do not have customers, but members.

Trendsales is the largest fashion bazaar with the purchase, sale and exchange of brand name and designer goods.

Share Your Closet is an online lending exchange. Here you can upload pictures of your own clothes that you want to share with the community. When it gets loaned out, earn borrow clips that you use to subsequently borrow clothes.

On Swapmok you can find new clothes, but instead of paying with money, you pay with your own or your children’s used clothing.
