SIMPLIFICATION!

Simplification is the topic of the school exam paper that Hybrida bloggers are actually working with right now. So I am actually quite busy with my exam and writing about this concept.

Anyway I got inspired by the topic and I wanted to write a post about simplicity and about how complex it can be to make things simpler.

We are all overwhelmed by consumerism and sobered by the economy, that makes me question: What does a more balanced and sustainable way of living look like?

57fe04182891d420f23cc8d4a2bf4fdd

We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, is the base  towards long term happiness of any human being.

Simplicity is not about living in poverty; it is about living with balance, however there are no rules or recipes with all the answers upon  how to build a sustainable lifestyle.

It is nice to see that more and more citizens are embracing the less-is-more philosophy of “voluntary simplicity,” trading possession obsession for personal fulfilment.

It is time for our  generation to invent cool lifestyles for living just like Gandhi believed in a life of simplicity and self-sufficiency.

This kind of simplicity that I am talking about “works” when you choose a lifestyle that fits you and your values and is based on the things that are the most important to YOU.

So,I believe that the “magic secret” is a balance of consistency, moderation, and flexibility, and the goal should be a lifestyle that is based on happiness, joy, love, excitement and fulfilling.

There is nothing wrong or negative about  LIVING your life instead of just existing day to day!

Start noticing what makes you happy every day; be happy, enjoy every moment of your life.

Happy (late) maternal figure day!

So yesterday was the day to get to know all your friend´s moms faces on Facebook..haha

I hope you all have enjoyed the company of your maternal figures on sunday and I use that word because many don´t have their moms but have someone else who has been there for them whenever they needed, caring, giving love and providing and what is a mother but that?

I unfortunately did not have the chance to be with mine since we live in different countries so that is why I will dedicate this little post to her. She has been my inspiration since I was very young, both in style and in life. She has always been strong but loving at the same time and was both a mother and a father at a certain point of my life.

Not to mention (as I did in another post) her AWESOME STYLE. Seriously, she is one of the most stylish I have ever known. Here you can see some of her pictures from when she was about my age.IMG_2864 IMG_2869 IMG_2878 IMG_2889 IMG_2894 IMG_2900 IMG_2903

Hope you will enjoy it and give your mom a big hug if you have the chance 🙂

With love, Mari

Last day in Rome

Hi!

On the last day in Rome, we went to do a bit more shopping and enjoyed the beautiful city before we were heading back to Copenhagen. We had a late flight, so we basically had the whole day to walk around which was perfect 🙂 We had the best pasta, with truffles and of course tiramisu for dessert.

As you can see Rome had the most charming and beautiful streets and areas, it is definitely not the last time I am visiting the city!

Day 3 in Rome

Hi guys!

We decided to go shopping a bit on the 3rd day in Rome. I only bought 2 tops and a pair of sandals so I am ready for the summer! 😉 I also bought some jars of parmesan creme and butter with truffles – YUM! So now I can (try) to make some delicious pasta at home…

We found this cute little café where they served delicious meat and cheese platters, and it was HEAVEN. It was very authentic and such a cozy place. We enjoying it with a glass of wine 🙂

Healthy Lifestyle

So, as mentioned on my last post, I have started on a new and healthier lifestyle.

As many know, I moved out of my parent´s place when I was 19 and came straight away to Denmark. Back then I was, as most teenagers, in good shape, not necessarily because I had healthy habits, but mostly because my metabolism was extraordinary. Seriously! I use to eat a whole bar of chocolate EVERY DAY without even feeling it! Not to mention I did not exercise at all..I guess in a way, I used to cook and eat as a way of not stressing so much over living alone and away from my family and friends.1978725_10152296150394269_689253731_n2009

Well, that obviously did not last long. About after 3 years I started noticing that my weight had increased, my skin was not the same, even my hair and nails were no longer stronger as they used to, but I was so used to just load myself with food that I did not pay much attention and other than entering the gym, I just kept on going the same way.1014128_10151670638919269_1317421648_n2013

Well, I won´t say I haven´t tried some crazy diets but as most of us know, they don´t work! Just about 2 months ago, I decided on taking action and really do something about it. Nothing extreme, I just started waking up earlier to run and taking more care of everything I put in my mouth. Some small changes DO make a difference. I have not only lost 3kg since I started, but also see the difference when I look in the mirror. Plus, I feel much more energetic during the day and relaxed when I sleep, due to the fact that my stomach is not struggling between digesting all the food I just ate and trying to put my body in a sleeping mode.IMG_29782014

I usually don´t like dieting tips, but these small changes are making the whole difference for me and if it helps any of you reading it, I will be already satisfied, so here it goes:

  • Have dinner earlier (you will feel 10kg lighter when you wake up)
  • Find the motivation to exercise (Nike Running app is what keeps me going)
  • Eat slightly less than you usually do during meals (it makes a HUGE difference in the end of the day/week/month/year)
  • Don´t cut all the crap, just eat less of it (better a little everyday then everything during the weekend)
  • Follow motivational profiles on Instagram (to see how healthy some people are, makes me want to be like them)

Hope this will help you out in case you are thinking about changing for a healthier lifestyle. I am not going to say it is easy, but once you see the results, you won´t want to go back! Also, don´t feel demotivated if you lose control during a day or a week, it has happened to me but you just have to take the next day seriously and don´t give up.

Love, Mari.

Summer Festivals

When in Denmark one CANNOT start creating expectations about summer, because rain will come and wash it all away…Oh, DK!

Well, despite the funny coming and going of my beloved sun, I am pretty much excited about this summer. First, because lately I had to stop and think about my weight, which has been increasing for the last few years (I guess being in a relationship DOES help you gaining weight!), then I decided on having a healthier lifestyle – don´t miss my next post! – so I am expecting to have, as Danes say, a “bikini ready” body until summer, but mostly keep on being healthy. IMG_2377Second, because so many festivals on the corner just makes you dream of fresh outfits and sitting on the grass with friends and a couple of drinks, so here is a list with 5 Scandinavian Festivals which you just cannot miss:

Distortion – June 4-8DistortionThis is a Street Music Festival that sort of opens the summer season in Copenhagen, so whenever the whole city is out for Distortion, you know it is time to put on some shorts! This year, it is going to happen from June 4th to 8th starting in Nørrebro and Vesterbro, then heading to the Harbour of Copenhagen and the Final Party. The best thing about this festival is that it is for free so everyone can join, but if you are not planning to attend it, watch out these streets, so you can chose other ways to go to your destination. It is almost impossible to bike, drive or even walk.

Secret Solstice – June 20-22Solstice Secret Solstice in Iceland has been gaining a lot of international and local recognition, maybe because of the exciting explanation behind it (it will happen during the 24-hour midnight sun during Summer Solstice and is based on the old Norse Mythology) or the even more exciting line up, which includes Massive Attack, Woodkid, Kerri Chandler and many more. If you ever wished to be in a place with endless sun, this is your destination!

Roskilde Festival – June 29-July 06RoskildeThe 43 year old pioneer – and one of the largest in Europe – festival that happens in the city of Roskilde, Denmark brings this year, among others, heavy names like The Rolling Stones, Drake, Stevie Wonder, Lykke Li and Manu Chao. It is a big event, so make sure to have a tent, plenty of food and beer. The good thing is that there is the possibility for students to volunteer for small jobs and get free tickets.

Stella Pollaris – early AugustStellaImagine yourself surrounded by nature, good music and company. The coolest locations are always held for this electronic music festival.. Be aware for whenever Stella Pollaris releases the dates for 2014, since this is a MUST GO festival if you live in Cph!

Strøm – August 11-17StrømIf you are into electronic music, this is the festival for you! With a range of Danish and International DJs and musicians, it is held late summer in different venues around the town of Copenhagen.

This year, I personally plan to attend Distortion, Stella Pollaris and go to Roskilde Festival as a volunteer, how about you, which summer festivals do you plan to go to?

Love, Mari

Khloé’s Birthday!

As April comes, flowers start blooming and so it’s the time to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Khloé is the name that I chose to my daughter and it means exactly fresh blooming in Greek!

flower blooming

Well, all mothers out there you know how we feel each passing year of our child’s birthday.

On Friday 11th April, 3 years had passed since I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Khloé and since than my life has changed. It is so hard to put into words how having a child changes your  life and how you share your child’s every day life and journey with friends and family like it is the most amazing but yet most challenging experiences you have ever had.

Khloé3

I never understood that before but when I became a mother, I suddenly understood my mother so much more!

I am filled with such a joy and pride to be mother of an amazing sweet girl. Khloé is truly a special gift from God.

Khloé and I

I feel so lucky to have such a caring daughter, with a tender heart full of love and care for those around her even though she is only 3.

I love to watch her sing and dance and especially when she specifically requires having her dress on and for me to turn on the music. She may be tiny but has for sure a big personality already.

Since her first birthday, it had become a tradition for me to bake her birthday cake myself and put my creativity and caring into a next level. I love to see the happiness in her face each time and as she grows old, Khloé now already wishes herself which kind of cake she wishes. It suddenly becoming more challenging to bake as for example this year she asked for a castle cake for her princesses.

Anyway, I cannot wait to celebrate so many more birthdays with Khloé! It’s been my pleasure to care for her through the years and now I look forward to guiding her through her child-hood as she learns to become her own person.

Love you so much Khloé! You are the best thing that has ever happen to me!

Parisian memories

Hi everyone.

Easter holidays are here! How exciting is that 😉 I am going to travel to Rome in next week with a friend of mine, and I am SO excited. I have never been there before so I can not wait to see what Rome has to offer 😉 Let me know if you have any tips 🙂

In 2012, I was in Paris with my classmates around easter. It was such an amazing trip 😉 I have gathered some pictures from the trip – feel like going back to Paris RIGHT now when I look at the pictures. I love the atmosphere and energy in the city…

Easter in Copenhagen – what to do?

Thanks God It´s Saturday!

Weekend is here, there is a whole holiday week coming in and…what to do if you are on a short budget or not planning to travel out of Copenhagen? Well, so are we! Join us and let´s take a trip on some tips of what do.

If you, like us, are into some serious (and unexpensive) shopping, then you should for sure visit the CPH Fashion Outlet at Øksnehalen. It is going to happen today and tomorrow from 10-17 and there is free entrance! So hurry up and click on the picture in order to get your free pass-ticket.Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 11.09.37 AM

As a good Brazilian who appreciates all forms of art, I became extremely happy when I got to know that the Film Festival CPH PIX was having a whole week with new Brazilian movies. Personally, I want to watch “Praia do Futuro”, but all the other titles seem just as exciting, so if you tired of the Hollywood comedies and want to try something new, go for it.Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 11.26.51 AM

Just want to take a walk in the city and get a little lost? Well, then you should go to Jægersborggade. This might be one of the sweetest streets in Cph. Filled with all sorts of shops, from trendy cafes and restaurants to designed and handmade crafts, you will for sure find something to do in there. Just grabbing a cup of coffee and going to the cemetery/park by the side of it is one of the coziest things to do on lazy Sundays.jaegersborggade_ty_stangePicture from Visit Copenhagen

“Life is short, don´t be content with the ordinary, go extraordinary” So says the owners at 1105, one of the coolest cocktail bars we have been lately. Make sure you order a Cucumber Yum-yum with the DM-winner Hardeep Reehal and you will have your night´s highlight! Prices are a little over student-budgets, but totally worth it!4749403-llPicture from AOK

Let us know if have been to any of these places and what you thought of it or what your plans are for Easter Holidays!

Enjoy the weekend!
